By Published Updated 6 min read

Quick answer: For Christmas delivery in the lower 48 states, USPS recommends shipping by Thursday, December 17 with Ground Advantage, Friday, December 18 with Priority Mail and Saturday, December 19 with Priority Mail Express. FedEx's last days run from Tuesday, December 15 (Ground Economy) to Wednesday, December 23 (overnight). UPS had not published 2026 dates as of September 30, 2026.

Every carrier date below comes from the carrier's own 2026 holiday page or chart, checked the week we published. If you are ordering a box from us instead of shipping one yourself, skip to our order-by dates.

USPS dates are for "expected delivery before December 25." FedEx dates aim for arrival by Thursday, December 24. Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, is a federal holiday.

What are the USPS holiday shipping deadlines for 2026?

For the lower 48 states, USPS recommends sending by Thursday, December 17 for Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail, Friday, December 18 for Priority Mail and Saturday, December 19 for Priority Mail Express.

Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and US territories share those dates with one change: Ground Advantage moves up a day, to Wednesday, December 16. USPS also warns that Ground Advantage packages to or from these ZIP codes may take longer.

Military mail runs weeks earlier. For APO, FPO and DPO addresses, the dates are Wednesday, November 4 for Ground Advantage, Wednesday, December 9 for First-Class Mail and Priority Mail, and Wednesday, December 16 for Priority Mail Express Military Service, which is not offered to AE ZIP codes starting with 093.

USPS adds that actual delivery "may vary and is based on origin, destination, Post Office acceptance time, and other conditions." Treat each date as the last safe day, not the target.

What are the FedEx holiday shipping deadlines for 2026?

FedEx's 2026 chart lists the last days to ship "to help ensure your package is scheduled to arrive by December 24, 2026."

  • Ground Economy: Tuesday, December 15.
  • Ground and Home Delivery: Thursday, December 17 for 5-day transit, Friday, December 18 for 4-day, Monday, December 21 for 3-day, Tuesday, December 22 for 2-day and Wednesday, December 23 for 1-day transit.
  • Express Saver: Monday, December 21.
  • 2Day and 2Day AM: Tuesday, December 22.
  • First, Priority and Standard Overnight: Wednesday, December 23.
  • SameDay: Thursday, December 24.

Ground transit depends on the origin and destination ZIP codes. FedEx puts it at 1 to 5 business days in the contiguous US and 3 to 7 to and from Alaska and Hawaii. The Ground dates assume a regular scheduled pickup or a drop-off at a staffed FedEx location, and FedEx says the dates are subject to change.

Has UPS published its 2026 holiday deadlines?

Not yet. When we checked on September 30, 2026, the UPS year-end holiday schedule still showed 2025 dates, and we found no 2026 schedule on ups.com. We will not guess at UPS dates.

Last year, UPS announced its holiday shipping dates on September 24, 2025. We will add the 2026 dates to this page when UPS publishes them. Check back in October, or confirm on ups.com before you ship with UPS.

What do these deadlines mean for Hanukkah and Kwanzaa?

Hanukkah 2026 begins at sundown on Friday, December 4, and ends at nightfall on Saturday, December 12, well before the Christmas cutoffs. USPS notes on its holiday page that Hanukkah falls earlier this year and asks shippers to adjust.

No carrier publishes a Hanukkah cutoff. To have a gift in hand before the first candle, count back from Thursday, December 3 using your service's normal transit time, and do not count Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 26, as a delivery day. Our own Hanukkah dates are Monday, November 23 for Standard and Monday, November 30 for Express. Ideas for each night are in our guide to Hanukkah gifts for all eight nights.

Kwanzaa runs from Saturday, December 26, to Friday, January 1. USPS lists it beside Christmas on the same holiday page, so the same dates apply: ship by the Christmas cutoffs above for arrival before the first day. For what to give, see our Kwanzaa gift guide.

When do I need to order from Exclusive Gift House for Christmas?

Order by Tuesday, December 15 with Standard shipping or Friday, December 18 with Express, and we plan delivery by Thursday, December 24. Our dates come before the carrier dates because they include the time it takes to pack your box by hand in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Standard counts back 7 business days from the deliver-by date: up to 2 to pack and up to 5 in transit. Express counts back 3 business days, 1 to pack and 2 by air, and in late December we set it a little earlier to allow for carrier peak season. Kwanzaa gifts use the same two dates. For New Year's Eve, order by Friday, December 18 (Standard) or Wednesday, December 23 (Express). Every holiday is on our order-by dates page, and processing details are on Shipping and Delivery.

What if I miss every deadline?

Send the Exclusive Gift House E-Gift Card. It is delivered by email in minutes, comes in $50, $100, $150, $250 and $500, and has no order-by date, so it works on Christmas Eve. Any balance stays on the card for a later order. For a day-by-day plan, see last-minute Christmas gifts that still arrive by December 24.
