The oolong and the glass cups are the heart of the trunk. Oolong sits between green and black tea: floral, rounded and made to be steeped more than once, which suits a long visit. Clear glass lets everyone watch the leaves unfold, and the cups come as a pair, because good things come in pairs.

The pistachios are known in Mandarin as happy nuts, a favorite on the New Year sweets tray. The saffron is from our sister brand, Raihan Saffron. Grade A saffron threads from Herat, Afghanistan.

Brew the oolong just off the boil, then pour the same leaves two or three more times. Each cup tastes a little different.

Wrapped in red and gold, never white or black.

Every box includes a handwritten note, a keepsake box, tissue and ribbon. Packed by hand in Lynn, Massachusetts.

The story

We built this trunk for the couple who hosts the New Year: tea for two, dates and pistachios for the sweets tray, saffron for the kitchen. Everything arrives in red and gold, with eight gifts for luck.
